Clyde and Donna 50th Anniversary

Shaw Family Portraits-33

November is a special time of year. The leaves are changing, the weather…well it’s Savannah so the weather is all over the place, families gather for turkey dinners, and great deals on Black Friday. This November was extra special as I had the opportunity to photograph the 50th anniversary of Clyde and Donna’s wedding. We gathered before the party outside The Landings Oakridge Club to photograph family portraits with their children and grandchildren who all came to town for the celebration.

After the portraits were taken, we made our way inside for the party and dinner. A band belted out oldies tunes and more people stayed on the dance floor throughout the night than at most parties held by newly weds. The happy couple was surrounded by friends and family throughout the night as they danced, chatted, cut the cake, and shared their 50-years of love with them.

Jamey and Stacey

Caldwell 094

11/11/11 was a special day for weddings. More than 3,000 marriage applications were filed in Las Vegas alone. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of one of the many held on Tybee Island. When I arrived for the 4:30 vow renewal, I was overwhelmed by the number of wedding parties spread along the North Beach. The groom, Jamey set up near the jetties, not far from two other wedding parties and awaited for the arrival of his lovely wife. Stacey made her way over the crossover along with her daughter, who she carried in her arms to the beach. The setting sun offered beautiful light and the ocean was a great backdrop for this special re-commitment ceremony.

Stephanie and Josh

s j Portraits-38

Through my eleven year career at The Savannah Morning News, I’ve always been fortunate to do freelance work on the side to help break up the monotony of daily assignments.  Over the past few months, I’ve been exceptionally busy and blessed.  It has given me opportunity to work with a lot of wonderful clients in a variety of fashions.

One of the things I enjoy is being able to share in the excitement of a couples’ big day.  Having been recently married myself, the experience is all the more special and romantic.

I had the pleasure of documenting Stephanie and Josh’s wedding day at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum.  It was the first time I’d photographed a wedding where the officiant did not allow for photos to be taken during the actual ceremony.  However the beauty of the surroundings made for some amazing portraits before and after the vows.
