Selling Myself and My Photography

We recently had the opportunity to set up a booth at our first wedding expo. It was really exciting, and a great chance for us to meet couples who were planning their wedding. The Premier Wedding Expo was a fair representation of the wedding market in Savannah. Out of the many vendor booths at the expo approximately ten of them were photographers. We all had our best work on display showcased through a variety of prints, albums, and slideshows. Aside from the differences in style and price it really comes down to the ability to sell you, not just the work. This is a pretty big switch for me since I spent so much of my career as a photojournalist in a world where you were only as good as your last assignment and your images speak for themselves.

As I struggled at times to explain why a couple should hire me instead of someone else, I found it very uncomfortable talking about myself and my abilities. I was having mixed feelings about the whole sales process until I read this comment on a post from my Facebook Business Page:

Lexy-and-Adam-31“Good luck! Your pictures sell themselves! I have had nothing but amazing compliments from my wedding photos. They will regret it if they do not book you.” Lexy

It wasn’t until I got home and read this comment from a former bride that I realized our past couples could sell me way better than I could ever sell myself. So thank you to all of our past clients for the many wonderful reviews and kind words because you describe me way better than I can describe myself!

Stephanie-&-Seth-24“I could not be happier with my wedding pictures! After winning a free engagement session from Rich 😉 – I knew that we wanted him to photograph our wedding as well. Rich is easy to work with and responsive to suggestions and questions. We truly loved having he and his wife be a part of our big day. He had finished editing the photos and had them ready for us before we got back from our honeymoon, which was great!” Stephanie

“I wish I could give Rich more than five stars. Not only was he easy to work with and to talk to, he is an amazing photographer. Our photos for the engagement session and for the wedding turned out beautiful! I could not have been happier. Rich has made things so simple and stress free. He was worth every cent.” Lyndsey

“Mr. Burkhart was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. I planned my Portraits-37Savannah wedding from Atlanta and was extremely stressed about finding a good photographer. I was having no luck with finding a photographer for my date 🙁 I was recommended to Rich by a reputable photographer and I have no regrets. I emailed him and got a response the same day! His prices are flexible and the quality is outstanding. He was very professional, responsive, sweet, cheerful, kind and patient. My pictures look like they came out a bridal magazine. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. He was such a joy to be around was truly a God send. Thank you Rich!!!” Tiffany

jessie-&-Phil-Blog-26“After being blown away by the talent Rich displayed with our engagement photos, I knew there was no other option for our wedding day then to have Rich there to photograph all the love shared by us and our friends and family. Thankfully he agreed to travel to Augusta from Savannah! I felt so overwhelmed getting dressed and ready that I ended up cutting into some of the time that we had planned for posed group pictures. Rich didn’t miss a beat as he is a photojournalist at heart and has a natural talent at preserving in photographs all the precious moments as they unfold. He captured every unplanned moment of me adjusting my daddy’s bow-tie, sharing a sweet smile with my new groom, and us staring off into the sunset over the lake. I couldn’t have imagined another photographer preserving our milestones over the past year. Rich Burkhart’s handiwork will adorn our house for all of our days! He is truly passionate about being a photographer and truly cares about his clients. He was always quick to respond to any emails, concerns, or ideas (writing with sparklers) that I had. Last, and definitely best, he is amazingly speedy at sending you the final product for you to oooooooohhhhhh and awwwwwwww over! I can’t wait to have him photograph our family in the future! I can’t express enough how much I love his work!!!” Jessie

Precious Parts

Time has really been flying by! I can’t believe the little guy is already 3 months old. I am so glad that I have been able to spend so much time watching him grow and learn. From the lips that he creates bubbles with to the red mark on his thumb, I love all of his adorable little parts.
